Hi there, Jane!!! ;)

Now i don't want to come off as unnecessarily over-critical or anything... :roll
so i'll start off by complementing the overall consistency of your track selection, as well as the general flow of the mix!!!
Also it's very nice to get a sneak preview of odyssey!!! 8)

There are, none the less, a few points i think you can work on..
While 22 tracks in 2 hrs may seem quite normal (or even stretched) for many genres of EDM & even some psy.. I find that in this particular sub-gengre where tracks average in at about 8-9min in lenth, 22 may be slightly excessive..

Which brings us to your mixing!! For the most part we can see confident, seamless transitions between tracks with just 1 or 2 "mistakes" during the whole set, not too much FX (GOOD) & solid EQing all round!!
Due however, to the track/time ratio (or maybe not...), you DO tend to OVERMIX (IMHO)..

Personally i Like to listen to the whole track the way the ARTIST wrote it (for sure some EQing & FX can be cool in moderation).. Generally i do not approve of pitching & beatmatching in this style..(techno, house & even full-on is somewhat DESIGNED for that).
I mean a LOT of hard work & dedication goes into creating exactly the right frequencies in a very precise order to give the dancer/listener a specific sensation & experience... all of which can be very easily compromised when you alter the pitch and beatmatch away whole sections of tracks....
This is, however, another never-ending debate that ultimately boils down to personal taste!!

Finally i'd like to say it's allways nice to see (& hear) chicks behind the decks pushing the Dark vibes & madness !! Not just standing there being all pretty & fluffy-like eye-candy bikini dj's (chapora comes to mind....) :(((
Some of the best dj sets i've seen in this genre have been chicks (Domino & Amanda)!!! :super
also a lot of interesting stuff is popping up production-wise as well...
:cheerG !!GIRL POWER!! :cheerG

hope that's not TOO much feedback in 1 go...

:psybanana: !BOOM! :psybanana:

First of all, I’d like to thank you for taking the time to listen my mix :)

Steam Punk: my name ist not Jane ;-) it is Meenakshi.

I was a bit irritated by your word “chicks” (or “girls”) – it sounds kinda disrespectful to me (in a few years I will reach 40). Also I’ve never seen any DJane jumping around behind the decks in a bikini in the psychedelic scene. We all work hard and try to share our passion – the music! It is all about the music.

I accept your critics and opinion – but it’s always a matter of taste. Nevertheless, I’d like to express my opinion.

I can’t understand why 22 tracks in 2 hours might be “slightly excessive”. I never cut off pieces/sections of tracks. My aim is to make long mixes, so the dancer/listener can move smoothly into the next track. I don’t like short-just-a-few-seconds-mixes ;-) That’s not challenging to me. It is my aim to stay constantly active as a DJane, meaning mixing! Otherwise it’s boring, too – for the DJ and for the dancefloor.

I don’t think I change tracks from the way the artist wrote it. Also, I always try to pitch a track only 1 or at least 2 bpm. Everything else I find rude. I respect the artists and their works completely (e.g. I BUY all my music). While mixing, I only work with the EQs and faders. I don’t use FX or other effects. That’s all pure hand work and creating new soundscapes and more pressure for the dancefloor. Thanks for the compliment that it seemed to you I am using the FX, being non-existent on my mixer ;-)

I know there are few mistakes in that mix. But what now? I have seen many so called star-DJs in this and other genres (I am into electronic dance music since 1993) making mistakes.
Please consider that I was using vinyl earlier and CD’s nowadays. Working with Traktor and so on and it’s “autopitch and synchronization” function is out of question for me.

My mixes are always spontaneous and I only play them once. So I just take them how they come, as they are an expression of that moment. In this mix, I definitively had to get warm first ;-)

Yea, mixing style is a matter of personal taste. SteamPunk, nice comments by the way, bar the “chicks” word hehehe :crazyG
I totally understand Meenakshi as I came from vynils and for quite a some time long mixes was a way to proper mix for me.
Obviously it changed as in darkpsy unfortunately producers do not care much about DJs and try to fit as much production into 6-8 minutes track.
If my memory dont let me down Meenakshi’s long mixes one of the best I heard. Maybe in few places it would be better for short mix but as I say I understand how easy one can be carried away with long mixes ;)
Leaving sound of whole track as artists intended sometimes is also not possible cos sometimes artist's intention to “beef up” the track to make up in 6-8 minutes out excellent 3-4 minutes. I have no problems to use only parts of the track I like and short mix into other track to just keep mix flow and energy going.

Anyway, good mix Meenakshi and congrats on signing up with HSS!! :drinks

OK! i officially apologise for using the word CHICKS!!

i guess it's a question of cultural background... for me it's a very affectionate term i call all my girl(can i say "girl"?)-friends by (& female family members), and has absolutely NO derogatory or negative connotation of any kind!!!

nevertheless, POINT TAKEN! & i shall refrain from using it on here!!

ps.- i didn't mean to hijack this thread & turn it into a debate over mixing technique... was just giving my opinion & feedback, as i thought that was what "...any comments appreciated :)" implied..
MY MISTAKE!!! :hand:
