^^^ I want one of those Akais... Was at a Guitar Center yesterday playing with that and one of these: http://www.novationmusic.com/products/l ... d?option=1 drooling the whole time

My setup;

p4 2.4ghz
1gb ram
560gb storage
tons of samples and VSTis
Renoise and its built in instruments and effects
Ableton Live 8
Audacity
a cheaper pair of Sony earbuds
computer speakers, cant remember the brand right now
Stock sound card
Korg microKONTROL
2 ears
1 imagination

Im in bad need of a good sound card and monitors, but I can't NOT make music, so, til I get hte right gear ill keep making music. Then I can make it GREAT music.

I was just looking at Renoise today. Seems really cool and I know a lot of breakcore producers that use it. I'm just not sure if I want to spend the time wrapping my head around it as I already use Reason and Live and I'm also trying to learn Max For Live as well. The launchpad is cool, and I thought about getting it, but the APC is one hell of a beast and I prefer knobs and faders over pressing pads. The only things I consider an advantage for the Launchpad over the APC is that the Launchpad is usb powered, and is much smaller.

The combo of the APC and the Launchpad (controlling the same instance of Live) was just a lot of fun...

Renoise was my choice because I had messed around with Impulse Tracker in high school, then rediscovered trackers like 8 years ago, using ModPlug, then found Renoise. I love it, Ive tried other DAWs and always, always there's something that I find myself wishing they did as well as Renoise... But I can really see why a lot of people more familiar with other, more conventional DAWs would be intimidated. In comparison, Renoise has more in common, interface wise, with Excel than Cubase. And Reason is a whole other gig, I had fun playing around in it, but it seems more designed for those already familiar with, or who prefer, hardware setups; sort of a hardware emulation which works best for a lot of people.

Renoise's price was right, 50 euro, which amounted to less than 60 bucks I think when I got it back in 04.
